About Tanglewood Music School

We wanted to build a school where a child could start at age five and still be learning with us at eighteen — without ever outgrowing their teacher.

That conviction led to the founding of Tanglewood Music School in 2000. Twenty-five years later, the same principle guides everything we do: provide teachers of the highest calibre, and trust that everything else follows.

Diploma-level teachers, from day one

Every instructor at Tanglewood holds a diploma or postgraduate degree in music performance or education. They haven’t just studied the syllabus — they have lived the journey from beginner to professional musician themselves.

The difference this makes is practical. A student who begins at age five never needs to change schools. The same teacher who introduces them to the instrument can prepare them for a diploma examination years later. Continuity of instruction, built on deep expertise, is what we offer.

The stage is part of the classroom

We believe that performing is not a reward for reaching a certain level — it is an essential part of learning music at every stage. Our students perform regularly in our Bukit Timah auditorium, at venues across Singapore, and on international stages.

Through solo recitals, ensemble concerts, and our dedicated orchestra programme, students build the confidence and expressive skills that no amount of practice alone can develop.

A quarter century of music

Over 25 years, our students have gone on to study at conservatories, win competitions, and gain admission to selective programmes like SOTA and the Music Elective Programme. Most simply carry with them a deep, lasting connection to music that enriches their lives.
