Parents' Night, GET UPDATED!!!

Tanglewood Music School had organised the Parents’ Night on Wednesday, 19th January 2011.Parents and students received updates from the school’s management team regarding the school’s directions, programs and events for the year 2011. Information Highlights:

-          Mrs Karen Goh, Principal, introduced the management team to the lovely parents of Tanglewood.

-          Dr. Wilson Goh, Director of Curriculum, presented the school’s philosophy as the 3Ps, Practice - Play - Perform: Practice to master your skills. Play to express your feelings. Perform to share your achievements.” Performing is a good way to assist students to achieve a higher level of skills, confidence and character building (team work, music feelings…).

Dr Goh further shared that the school is also exploring with an internationally well-known organisation in Vienna to establish possible working partnership. This may help to create another platform for us to enable aspiring and talented students to journey further in their quest for quality education in music.

 Ms Eva Fernandez, our Executive Manager presented upcoming performances and events for the year.

 

  -          Highlight Events:

 

o   Overseas performance: Austria 2010 recap.

o   Festival de Musica in June 2011.

o   Overseas performance: Spain 2011.

  -   Tanglewood Music School announced the link with a music school in Vienna, Austria. It is an investment of more than €10M by various well-known organisations, including Tanglewood Music School, and political figure. This school is scheduled to open in summer 2012 with the IB program. Tanglewood Music School will then be the bridge to bring students from Asia Pacific to Europe for a high quality music education.

During the Question and Answer session, we received many questions from parents and students, regarding players form the Orchestra - Tanglewood d' Camerata, which Tanglewood formed 3 years back. Here are some of the commonly asked questions from parents and students:

Q: How can I / my child join the Orchestra?

A: Basically, teachers will be the one to decide who is able to join the Orchestra. Depending on the level of playing, teachers will arrange students’ roles accordingly in the Orchestra. If you have friends who wishes to participate but they are not from Tanglewood Music School, they are most welcome to sign up for an audition before joining our Orchestra with a regular fee.

Q: What ages can I / my child can join the Orchestra?

A: Anyone whose possesses an aptitude and ability to play an instrument will be encouraged to participate. However, we encourage parents to have the children to sit in during the Orchestra practice to motivate them before they decide to for an audition to join the Orchestra. There is NO age limit for music. 

 

Q: Regarding the music school in Vienna, what is the scope of the school? What is the age range? And what are the faculties?

A: The music school in Vienna’s scope is like SOTA (School of the Arts) in Singapore. The prestigious school in Vienna will offer IB program for local and international students with a slant towards music. Tanglewood Music School is in the process of working and exploring with Raffles Institute on the possibility to kick start this program with the music school in Vienna. (TBA)
