As described in ‘Known Violin Makers’ by John Fairfield and ‘Universal Dictionary of Violin & Bow Makers’ by William Henley:

 
“…An apprentice of G. Bazin and later worked under Darche in Brussels. Has conducted his shop in Mirecourt since 1920. He is already famous for his excellent workmanship. He is very skillful in producing copies of the old Cremonese models and uses only the best materials. The varnish is yellowish red to vivid red.”
 
This violin from GPA’s collection, is built in 1932, numbered 679, signed and stamped and firebranded. It is in perfect condition, no cracks or repairs visible. This is rare for an old violin. This is built by Dieudonne, and not one of the factory-made instruments with labels and brands of Dieudonne commonly seen in the market.
 
The sound is strong and clear, with a fairly deep lower registers and soprano upper registers.
 
Price guide by John Fairfield showed its worth to be US$ 1,500 in 1980, US$ 10,000 in 1999, and US$ 15,000 in 2006.
