Tanglewood Music School launches orchestra group, the Littlewood Players

Tanglewood Music School’s principal, Karen Yap, officially announced the formation of an orchestral group that will practise and perform regularly.

During her opening address at this year’s Tanglewood Music School annual concert, Karen commended the young maestros for months of practise and their achievements that culminated in a night of outstanding classical music. Called the “Littlewood Players”, students from both Tanglewood Music School and the public were invited to sign up and be a member of a regular performing orchestral group.

Parents of students from Tanglewood Music School also sounded their affirmation for the launch of the Littlewood Players.

“I think it was really a great experience for both Su Yean and us. We certainly enjoyed it (the concert) and hope that Tanglewood would seriously consider forming a ‘regular’ orchestra”, said Mr. Leong Chun Siu.

This year’s concert also featured the fruits of conductor Gevorg Sargsyan’s labour. The conductor and cello associate who has been mentoring young musicians in orchestral conducting has three of his student conductors take up their battutas and conduct the orchestra in front of a packed audience at the Alliance Franciase Theatre.

Parents, students, staff and friends from Tanglewood Music School and GPA Holdings also donated charity tickets and sponsored transportation to invite youths and children from the Chan Su Lan Methodist Home, Andrew and Grace Home, Jamiyah Children’s Home and the Dyslexia Association of Singapore enjoy the performance put up by the young maestros.
